Evaluation from survey

From gathering the results from my survey on the website i have received a total of 21 reviews. The overall majority of the reviews have been positive and i have also received only 1 percent of negative reviews.

Here is the amount submitted by all those who took part in the survey about the website:

Screen Shot 2017-06-27 at 15.16.17.png

As you can see, i had 18 responses on the day of the survey being available and 3 the day after.

Here are the results from question one:

Screen Shot 2017-06-27 at 15.18.32.png

As you can see from these results, the feedback from question one has shown me that the website does appear easy to navigate. The majority of the audience have said extremely easy, i had 0% of the audience say it was not easy. Therefore, yes my website is easy to navigate.

Here are the results for question two: Screen Shot 2017-06-27 at 15.18.51.png

As you can see, 20 people have said that the internal and external hyperlinks work well. However 1 person has disagreed. I have come to the conclusion that yes the hyperlinks do work well as 95.24% have agreed.

Here are the results for question 3:

Screen Shot 2017-06-27 at 15.19.03.png

As you can see the majority once again have specified that things are going well with the website. However, 1 person has said that it is slow therefore meaning that some minor improvements will need to be made.

Here are the results for question 4:

Screen Shot 2017-06-27 at 15.19.16.png

As we can see, the majority have said that there is no difference on the performance of the website on other browsers. This means that nothing has changed. However 4 people have said there is a slight difference.

Here are the results from the final question:

Screen Shot 2017-06-27 at 15.19.28.png

From these results i can see that the house style was consistent for the majority of people.

From looking at all these results i have come to the conclusion that the website is a success. The website is easy to navigate, the internal/external hyperlinks work well, the page loading times are fast, there is no difference of how the website performs on other browsers and the house style is consistent on all pages. However, a small majority have disagreed with some of these questions. To change this i will be reviewing the website myself and i will make the final judgment as to if the website works or not.

After reviewing the website, i have decided that it all works fine with no issues at all.

Unit 2.2

In the future, i would like to work as an editor in big productions. I feel like i could utilise my skill in editing i already had in order to complete future tasks that may come up. I enjoy editing because i like spending time on things and making sure that they are as a good as they can possibly be, if not even better. I feel if i used my written communication then i could get a job in the media industry as an editor. I feel as if i can most definitely out all my skills on a piece of paper and so far i have been successful with anything i have edited. My cv would be written accordingly to the job role ill be applying for, i would include all my past experiences and what im good at. I will need to use my skills of verbal communication to obtain the job i would want to get as an editor in the future as well. I believe that my verbal communication skills are to high standard, this is  mainly because i enjoy speaking to people and understanding them. I would say i am a peoples person, this is a good skill to have because it will mean i have the confidence of meeting people and talking to them about what i want to do as an editor.  The work i have already produced for people has been greatly commended. I took part in the creative film challenge and my production won a small award. I feel as if i am very creative in my editing skills and this will help me to achieve any and all goals i have in the career i want to get in to. I like to think outside the box, striving constantly to be the best in my editing.

However i can identify some potential gaps in my editing skills that would need to be filled in order to to carry out my future job as an editor. These gaps are that i am not as experienced as i would want to be yet. This is due to my knowledge is only limited, im in my first year of college so i dont know everything. I also can find myself becoming rather distracted at times but im working on that.

To ensure my future is not jeopardised, i am creating a plan to resolve the gaps in my skills that stop me reaching my full potential as an editor for a big production. To improve my written communication i am going to work on sending alot more emails, proof reading and spell checking correctly. This will help me to look more professional and succeed in being great at communication through writing. To improve my verbal communication, i am going to work on the way i speak to certain people, more eye contact and lower my tone. This will help me to seem more approachable and less cocky as i will be calm and neutral in the way i speak to certain people. My practical skills will be improved by studying more about what it takes to be a good film editor, i will use more than just one editing software and spend more time editing. I feel that this is the key to reaching my goal one hundred percent. My creative mind will need to be improved by writing down any and all ideas that come to my head because that has always been my issue, i will have a great idea but i wont write it down so when it comes to it, it never happens.

The three skills i have that i would need to become apart of the potential future employment are:

  • Communication skills
  • Production skills
  • Creative skills

My communication skills i have listed above in the first paragraph

My production skills i have listed above in the first paragraph as well as my creative skills.

Here is my plan for the rest of the year

July August September October November December
Improve camera skills, shoot as much as possibly can over this month Edit all the work captured in july this month to get better at editing Write some scripts to help improve my creative writing skills Master lighting techniques. Be able to set up lights myself Memories every piece of equipment I have available Make a professional looking short movie

Unit 22.1

Jobs and roles within the media industry:

  • Director

– A film director is a person who directs the making of a film. Generally, a film director controls a film’s artistic and dramatic aspects and visualizes the screenplay (or script) while guiding the technical crew and actors in the fulfillment of that vision

  • Editor

–  A film editor is a mechanic who removes the unneeded and fits pieces of film together to make a finished movie. He is a collaborator who works with cinematographers and sound editors to bring sight and sound together.

  • Producer

– Film producers fill a variety of roles depending upon the type of producer. Either employed by a production company or independent, producers plan and coordinate various aspects of film production, such as selecting script, coordinating writing, directing and editing, and arranging financing.

  • Writer

-A screenplay writer (screenwriter for short), scriptwriter, or scenarist is a writer who practices the craft of screenwriting, writing screenplays on which mass media, such as films, television programs, comics or video games, are based.

  • Cinematography

-A cinematographer or director of photography (sometimes shortened to DP or DOP) is the chief over the camera and light crews working on a film, television production or other live action piece and is responsible for making artistic and technical decisions related to the image.

  • Location manager

-The location manager is a member of the film crew responsible for finding and securing locations to be used, obtaining all fire, police and other governmental permits, and coordinating the logistics for the production to complete its work.

  • Casting

-Casting Directors organize and facilitate the casting of actors for all the roles in a film. This involves working closely with the director and producer to understand their requirements, and suggesting ideal artists for each role, as well as arranging and conducting interviews and auditions.

  • Animator

-An animation director is the director in charge of all aspects of the animationprocess during the production of an animated film or an animated segment for a live-action film.

  • Runner

-A runner is an entry-level position, the most junior role in the production department of a broadcast, film or video company.

  • Lighting technician

-Lighting technician. Electrical lighting technicians (ELT) or simply lighting tech., are involved with rigging stage and location sets and controlling artificial, electric lights for art and entertainment venues (theatre or live music venues) or in video, television, or film production.

Each job role that i have listed above are what are needed for a production, and they are all as important as each other. I will go in detail about two of these job roles and describe what must be done in order to maintain said roles.

As a director for a movie this role will include many different things. For example is the one who is in charge of almost everything, the director makes the script wrote by the writer come alive. They watch over all the other roles within the production, in charge of casting, production and the creative aspect. The director is the author of the productions they produce under european union law, this means they are the creator of the whole process. They will watch over everything thats going on meaning every idea that other crew members have, they must run by the director first. Any questions or issues will also be answered by the director, they are in complete control and is the main one in charge over everything else. I wouldn’t need equipment as such, i would need to be able to control people and be as creative as possible. The skills i would need for this would be:

  • Creativity
  • Passion
  • Good vision
  • People skills
  • Working with a team

Another role is the the film editor. As the editor of a production their job involves using raw uncut footage filmed for the production, making them into sequences by using a range of different cuts and editorial techniques. To edit, the editor will work in an editing studio or from a computer using editing software such as final cut or adobe premier. Once they have finished their edit they will run it by the director and if the director is happy with it, the film will then be finished and ready to be viewed by audiences. The equipment i would need as an editor would be:

  • MacBook
  • Editing software (Final cut)

The skills i would need is to be fully trained on editing software and to be able to stick to deadlines, working as a team, communication and patience.

The purpose of Purple rain is to entertain the audience and also promote the artist Prince. This is because it is almost self autobiographical and tells a story through music and acting from prince and his band members. It’s other main purpose is to promote the band and help increase sales of the album “purple rain”.

Purple Rain’s genre is that of musical drama. This is because it holds some mature themes and the same conventions as similar movies such as: sex, alcohol abuse, domestic abuse, romance and pain. Also, the music in the movie tells a story to the viewer in a smart, original way. It is clear to see that this movie is a musical drama due to the already listed issues.

Purple rains medium is that of a film. However the film is a follow up from the album with the same title.

Purple rain has many different stylistic techniques that can be easily recognised. Some of these different stylistic techniques are the story and the actors. The story is loosly based on Prince’s life (the main character in purple rain) containing members from his actual band in the movie. The actors in the movie where all unknown and nearly all of them had no previous acting experience. This is different to other films in the same genre as this was a rather large risk to take.

Purple Rains content is large containing audio/visual content with narrative structure, camera shots/angles/movement, editing, sound, mise en scene and special effects.

The narrative structure of the movie is the story and the plot. The story is that of a troubled musician fighting his inner demons and many bizzare issues.

The plot is based around his life, many different plot events occur for the story to progress. For example, the music tells a story alongside the main plot which differs from the story but helps to create the story better.

Most of the camera shots in the movie are simple, plenty of close ups on the main character to show importance, slow tracking shots to show movement and panning shots to show travel. For a movie that was released in 1984, it was very well filmed, almost ahead of its time.

The sound throughout the movie differs from conversation to music which is effective as both link in with eachother to build the narrative structure up to the climax points.

The mise en scene in purple rain perfectly portrays life in the 1980’s. Makeup, big hair, ruffled shirts and long sparkly coats.

Meaning is created by the content in many different ways. For example, in this clip we can clearly see the meaning of emotions created. This is seen with the relationship between father and son, the pauses and tears of eachother.

g) Production Process

(e.g. pre-production – e.g. script development, storyboarding, production – e.g. filming, recording, post-production – e.g. editing)

Purple rains production process was lengthy. It was intially supposed to be called dreams however prince didnt like this and wanted purple in the name somwhere so it was eventually changed. Prince used to carry around a notebook for the movie and and most of the pre production stuff where kept in that book. During the filming it was pretty much the same, except prince scappred alot of the directors ideas.

Albert magnoli, the director, also edited the movie. The whole process took 5 months to complete.

how different parts of the institution interact to the needs of the products produced

Warner Brothers are the institution that interact to the needs of the products produced. This is is because the differnet parts the institution use help the movie purple rain to be more successful. This is because it was a film with untrained actors and a low budget.
